Spinning.

Warning: This post should not be read if you:

- Have ever taken a spinning class and conquered it (I PROMISE you'll think I'm a pansy.)
- Get lightheaded at the thought of extreme physical activity.

Let me just say............. Spinning is NOT a beginners' class.  If you don't know what spinning is, it is a cycling class that supposedly burns tons of calories and works your core.

Wish someone would have told me that.. WHEW!!!!!!!!!!

I just got home from my first ever (and probably last) spinning class.  I had heard that it was hard, but I really had no clue what to expect.  The only thing I knew about spinning was what I read on Mary Rambin's blog a couple years ago.  I was totally unprepared for the physical journey upon which I was about to embark.

Here's what happened:

I walked into the group fitness center as a first time guest.  I began to tell the girl behind the counter that I had never taken a spinning class.  This was her response:

(Chuckling) Well..... it's a workout! (Insert big smile here that says "You are SOOOO about to get your little white fanny KICKED!)

At the time, I did not notice said smile.

Class started, and I got my bike adjusted how I wanted it.  Then the warm up began.... and so did the heavy breathing.

Then the first song began.. The resistance and pace picked up.. We slid to the front of our seats (which does a NUMBER on your lower region, if you know what I'm saying!)

And then the infamous second song....... About halfway through the chorus of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," the instructor said "Okay!  Now everybody STAND UP and PEDAL!!"

I commenced to stand.. I pedaled.. twice.. sat back down for two more pedals.. got off my bike.. grabbed my stuff.. and walked out.

Well.. I actually bounced out, as I still felt like I was "racing"..

On the way out, the girl behind the counter was talking to a member.. As I was passing by, I heard her say enthusiastically to said member, "There's still one bike left!"

I then held two fingers over my head, said "Two!", and continued out the door.

Now that I am sitting on my comfy couch, I will admit that I am a little ashamed and disappointed in myself that I gave up approximately 20 minutes into the 45 minute workout.  I will also admit that I didn't start feeling my legs again until about 30 minutes after I left. HA!

Well.. I hope my miserable failure gave you a good laugh.. because it SURE gave my husband one!

  1. Ashley, this made my day! I'm sorry you've lost feeling in your legs, but I do appreciate you making me laugh. I've never tried spinning because it terrifies me. These legs of mine were just not made to ride a bike that fast! I'm impressed you made it 20 minutes, at least :)

PS--I love that you held up two fingers on your way out the door. Hilarious!
